Pacific Historical Review articles take home Western History Association awards

At the Western History Association's Semi-Centennial Conference, two recent articles from Pacific Historical Review took home awards: Stacey L. Smith's "Remaking Slavery in a Free State: Masters and Slaves in Gold Rush California" won the Ray Allen Billington Prize, an annual award for the best journal article in Western history, not published in the Western Historical Quarterly; and Jennifer Thigpen's "You Have Been Very Thoughtful Today: The Significance of Gratitude and Reciprocity in Missionary-Hawaiian Gift Exchange" won the Jensen-Miller Award, an annual award for the best article in the field of women and gender in the North American West.
