The Society for Music Theory
The Society for Music Theory was founded in 1977 to promote,
facilitate, and provide a forum for the exchange of information and
ideas pertaining to music theory and its teaching. The Society holds an
annual meeting, publishes two journals (
Music Theory Spectrum and
Music Theory Online) and encourages scholarly excellence by giving awards for outstanding publications in music theory.
